As I see it: Haring brought art back to the street and the heart, a vivid reminder that simplicity often tells the most human story.
In 2025, this is still a sore point.
Keith Haring (1958–1990) started with chalk drawings in the New York subway in the late 1970s, where he forged his simple lines and lively figures into a universal visual language. From 1980 onwards, he grew into an icon of pop art, with solo exhibitions from 1982 onwards and large murals that to this day symbolize solidarity, freedom and social involvement.
His work tells the story of an era full of energy, struggle and solidarity in powerful lines and primary colors. The dancing figures continue to convey the same philosophical message: art is for everyone, art is movement, art is life.
