Biography

Alex is a passionate artist, born and raised in Ostend, Belgium. From an early age, he has had a deep love for art and expression. After earning his bachelor's degree in art education, he became fascinated by painting, especially with oil paints. Since 2016, he has been working full-time as a teacher in secondary art education, while also building a career as an artist.

Since 2019, Alex has been traveling abroad to attend workshops with renowned artists, which have contributed to his growth as an artist and expanded his artistic network. In addition to his work in education, he also works as a visual artist with a passion for color, expression, realism, and traditional techniques.

Artistic Career

Alongside his teaching career, Alex has (since 2019) frequently reached out to artists who inspired him and whose work he admired with great wonder. This led him to travel, meet these artists in person, and even paint alongside them. In doing so, he not only formed friendships but also expanded his network within the artistic community. These interactions have significantly contributed to his development as an artist and further deepened his passion for art.

In 2019, he attended workshops in Australia with prominent artists such as Robin Eley (Adelaide), David Kassan (Albuquerque), and Shana Levenson (Albuquerque).
In 2022, he continued his educational journey in England with workshops in Yorkshire, led by Kathy Anderson (Connecticut), Daniel Keys (California), Richie Carter (Montana), Ruth Fitton (London), and Nick Alm (Sweden).
In 2023, Alex broadened his artistic horizon by exploring new techniques at the Flemish Classical Atelier in Bruges under the guidance of Scott Waddell (Florida).
In 2024, he officially started his artistic career as a part-time self-employed artist.
In 2024, he received a scholarship from the Ensor Institute to participate in an Erasmus job-shadowing program in Yorkshire for a workshop with Susan Lyon (North Carolina) and Scott Burdick (North Carolina).
In 2024, he attended another workshop in Yorkshire led by Alex Venezia (Virginia).
In 2025, he was invited to teach weekly figure drawing classes at the Pentagon in Ghent.
