In ancient Greek mythology, the Three Graces embody the daughters of Zeus, each of whom could offer the world a special gift: Aglaea (splendor), Euphrosyne (joy), and Thalia (abundance). Flowers and shrubs form the smiles of a landscape. Painting these white roses for the first time, I quickly realized that no two whites are alike. The colored whites are astonishingly delicate in their nuance. When the medium is well-adjusted, painting "fat on lean" with historical pigments is a pure joy. Over the course of several sessions, the paste rises slowly, and the painting becomes "edible" to the eye.
