I grew up surrounded by art and tried my hand at a very early age at embroidery, painting, pottery and ceramics. All art forms have always been intertwined and somehow connected, which allows me more creative freedom.
In 2013 while backpacking in China I decided to start embroidering my travel journal, complementing my usual travel sketching. I discovered accidentally a brand new application of a craft I learnt as a child, and made it into an art form.
I have since learnt specific techniques with renowned schools (such as the Royal School of Needlework) and world artists - from fishing nets in Brazil to extreme needle painting in South Africa.
In terms of embroidery techniques I prefer to use laced lattice stitches combined with classic ones, with a tendency for needle painted pieces. I often mix aquarelle backgrounds and then add the detail with embroidery.
Currently I'm fond of using unusual means to embroider such as agricultural sieves or classic tennis racquets, and I'm starting my journey embroidering on cracked and repurposed ceramics.
I am ever fascinated by popular cultural symbols and architectural pieces, with a particular interest on the figures of the "wild men" and other primitive figure of the savage as it survives in local popular traditions.
